Flora

Lily #2 Oil on Canvas

Historically, floral paintings have been a common subject matter in Western and Asian painting. During the course of my forty year career; I have completed floral work in watercolour, Chinese Brush painting, oils and chigiri-e (found on that page on this site).

My interest in painting with water soluable oils began roughly in 1993, when they were developed. The ability to work large with palette knives and brushes enticed me. Especially working with palette knives, was like spreading icing on cakes. The thickness of the oils added another dimension to my work in this medium. Works in oils included Waterton and Coutts En Plein Air. The studio work included close ups of florals, including this lily
